Pulling The Bullet Off A 22 Caliber Long Rifle Cartridge
Can a press be used to pull the one off a
.22 caliber LR cartridge with a davidson puller? What
type of press, collate, shell holder, dies, etc. are needed?
John
Response - John,
I don't know. I never tried. I always use my impact puller to remove
them. I never pulled apart a 22lr round, so
out of curiosity I tried one with my puller and took some
pictures. Not too much powder in those.

You used a impact puller? They are not recommended for rim-fire
cartridges, because the casing is held by the rim and the impact
can set off the cartridge. That is why I was asking how to use a
press and what die, shell holder, collate, etc. is needed.
John
Response -John,
Thanks for the warning.
That was stupid of me. I should have known better.

Hi Tanner, Do you have a press to do all the reloading
operations on center fire ammo? If you do, again, what type or
size of shell holder, bullet holder is needed for working on a
22 LR cartridge? Is there such size attachments for the 22
cartridge?
John
Response -John,
My press is the Lee Classic Turret Press. It is capable of
reloading a many different calibers but I don't know about ALL.
I just checked the Lee website http://leeprecision.com/ and
couldn't find anything mention of 22 long rifle ammo.
I don't think that they or anyone makes equipment or attachments
for working on 22 lr ammo (or at least I couldn't find any),
since they are not re-loadable. If you don't mind me asking,
what are you trying to do with the 22lr ammo?

Hi Tanner, I want find an easier way to pull the bullet
off a 22 LR called Aguila Colbri. It has no powder, just the rim
primer to drive the lead bullet. It is real quit and low
powered. I pull the bullet with a RW Hart Plier Type
Puller and regular pliers then replace the bullet with a wax one
sold by 3 web sites that I know of. They say that the RW Hart
Pliers are used with a press to pull the bullet. And they are
talking about .22 hornet type cartridges. The RW pliers hold the
case near the bullet not next to the rimfire. The case does not
deform when it comes off, but again it is hard pulling
it hand.
I read an article on some web site that he used a press and some
holders for reloading a .22 Win Magnum Rimfire using .25 caliber
holders and a press, but that cartridge casing is larger then a
.22 LR rimfire casing isn't it. He also does not mention the
type of press and collet to use.
Thanks, John
Response - John,
Thanks for the explanation.
